Weekly Crop Progress Report- Not Much Progress in Week Ending May 8th

We saw corn and soybean planting inch ahead last week according to USDA’s Weekly Crop Progress Report. Wet conditions have hampered the spring planting season so far for a majority of the country. We saw 22% of corn and 12% of soybeans planted nationwide as of Sunday, May 8th. Corn was up 8% on the week while soybeans were up just 4% from the previous week.

Corn planting is now 42% behind last year’s pace and 28% behind the five-year average of 50%. Soybean planting is 27% behind last year and 12% behind the five-year average of 24%.

Nationwide, winter wheat was rated 29% good to excellent, up 2 percentage points from 27% the previous week.
