(WASHINGTON D.C.)– On Thursday, Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) was named as the ranking member on the Senate Ag Committee.
It had been widely presumed for weeks that Klobuchar would take over as the Democratic leader on the Senate Ag Committee in the 119th Congress and the news came a day after Minnesota Representative Angie Craig was named as the ranking member on the House Agriculture Committee. Klobuchar has served on the Senate Ag Committee since her first term in Congress and she’s worked to pass three Farm Bills.
Klobuchar will be the new Democratic leader for the Senate Ag Committee and will work alongside committee Chairman, Senator John Boozman (R-AR). “When I first came to the Senate, my number-one request was to be on the Agriculture Committee,” said Senator Klobuchar. “I wanted to work on behalf of Minnesota’s farmers, make sure Americans could feed their families, and boost our rural economy. From working across the aisle to strengthen our defenses against animal disease outbreaks to bolstering our ability to produce home-grown fuel and supporting conservation efforts, the work of the Agriculture Committee touches every aspect of our lives. I look forward to working with Chairman Boozman and Representatives Craig and G.T. Thompson to pass a strong farm bill.”
“From her tour of all 87 counties each year to her work on the last three Farm Bills, Sen. Klobuchar is known for showing up, listening and delivering results,” said Minnesota Farmers Union (MFU) President Gary Wertish. “Our members know her and her office well and are grateful for her service. Minnesota’s history of strong, bipartisan leadership is well served by Sen. Klobuchar and Rep. Craig,” he added. “We’re grateful for their leadership.”
The National Cotton Council (NCC) also congratulated Klobuchar on her appointment as the new Ranking Member of the Senate Agriculture Committee. “Senator Klobuchar’s extensive experience and deep-rooted commitment to agricultural issues make her an exceptional choice for this pivotal role. The NCC is confident that Senator Klobuchar’s leadership will bring significant benefits to the agricultural sector. Her understanding of the challenges faced by farmers, combined with her ability to work across party lines, will ensure that the needs of the agricultural community are effectively addressed.”
