The U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) hosted a trade seminar on April 8 and 9, connecting buyers from 12 African nations with 30 U.S. beef and pork exporters. The event featured two dedicated sessions for one-on-one meetings between buyers and sellers, along with presentations from USMEF, USDA, and leaders in the U.S. cattle industry. Attendees also heard insights from successful African meat business owners and toured local retail stores and cold storage facilities.

Africa’s emerging and fast-growing middle class is increasingly willing to spend more on quality experiences, says USMEF Africa Representative Matt Copeland. This shift presents a strong opportunity for the U.S. red meat industry to expand its exports in the region—not just in variety meats, but across a broader range of products.

My conversations with Matt during the seminar in Ghana, Africa…
